Cloth DiapersSo with our new addition I decided that I didn't want to go broke buying disposable. I'm not a supper "green" person, but I try to do as much as I can to limit my footprint within reason.

Since my other two boys have a polyester allergy and most of the mainstream new cloth diapers are made with some sort of polyester I had a time of it trying to find things with 100% cotton that were reasonably priced. What I'm using right now are Gdiapers (with a homemade insert), Grovia with the 100% cotton snap-in inserts, Bummis organic cotton prefolds with a Thursties cover. My favorite one so far is the Grovia, it seems to be the least irritating on his sensitive little skin.

So here are the inserts that I made for the Gdiapers, they are made with two outer layers of flannel and two inner layers of microfiber.

I'm going to have to experiment with these because they seam to be causing him some irritation. I'm going to try doing an all cotton, and then fleece inner layers with the cotton outer. After I test them out I will be making them available for testing.

When I was researching all the cloth diaper stuff I was wondering what I could use for the covers since the majority of them are made with PUL or fleece, which are both polyester. I found some tutorials on wool covers using sweaters, so I gave it a try. For this one I had a sweater that I haven't worn in about 10 years that survived the many trips to Goodwill. I also picked up some really cheap sweaters at Goodwill. I still haven't lanolized them (which makes them waterproof) to try them out. The small one (not pictured here) I messed up and it's waiting for me to redo it. I'll have to get back to you on how they worked.

In the spirit of saving money and using what I have I made some pack n' play sheets out of an old queen sized sheet we no longer used. I was able to make two sheets out of it and had some left over.

Here are the links to the tutorials I used for these products.
Gdiaper inserts
Wool covers
Fitted pack n' play sheet

I only put elastic on the corners of my sheet. I can't believe it's been since October that I've posted on my blog. Shame! Shame!

Things have been rather busy with family life. Our bundle of joy has arrived and is already 4 weeks old. How in the world did 4 weeks go by so fast? Here is my newest model and precious little boy Noah....

At the beginning of the year I decided that I needed to take some time off and focus on some personal projects. If you are not a follower on Facebook or Twitter this may have been a surprise to you.

The reason I've been laying low is because we are expecting our 3rd baby. On top of that we started homeschool this year. It's been some very busy days for the past 4 months. I'm feeling much better and have so much energy now. The shop was on vacation while I was in the icky stage of the pregnancy, but it's now open and I'm accepting orders.

I'm also gearing up for the Street Fair on Nov 6-7 here in Picayune. So if you are near the area don't forget to come by that weekend and say hi.

I'm hoping that life doesn't turn upside down with this new addition, but I'm sure for a while we will be adjusting and enjoying the new baby. I'm due March 9th.Stitches In Cottonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02984869722510201024noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3927688256490632218.post-80111009756865582042010-07-02T09:00:00.001-05:002010-07-02T15:43:33.122-05:00Micro Mops Grand OpeningA few months back I started helping my friend Amy from Mama's Little Monkey's fill her Swiffer Wet Jet pad orders. I am from the New Orleans Area, I was not born there, but I have no recollection of ever living anywhere else. I LOVE Louisiana and there is no other place (that I've been) that is like it. I've lived in Texas, North Louisiana, Korea, Florida, and now in Mississippi, I have also visited several other states. I have never ever experienced the warm welcome as I've had when going to new places than I have when I go somewhere new in Louisiana. Everyone treats you like family in Louisiana and you are instantly accepted as you are, no matter where you are.

For example, when I was a growing up and new friends would come over most of the time you may be treated as a guest the first time you visited (open the door for you, we would offer you a drink, something to eat, get your glass for you maybe even serve you the food). After that you knock once and if the door was open let yourself in, you were then instructed to make yourself and home and help yourself to anything you wanted. This is how it was when I went to friends houses, sometimes you didn't get the initial guest treatment either, it was "welcome, make yourself at home." Now I don't know for sure that this doesn't happen other places, but I've never personally experienced it.

Ok so now that I'm done bragging on my State (I don't claim MS just yet). I am so upset with BP. They have been shady from the get go, not giving accurate information about how much oil was coming out and I'm sure other stuff too. I was listening to the local talk program where officials, residents, and other people in the know are calling in to give updates on what is actually going on down there. I tuned in while they were in the process of talking to one of Jefferson Parish's (that's county to those outside of LA, in case you were wondering) councilmen (not sure his name since they were already talking when I tuned it) and he was reporting some SHOCKING information. Well considering how shady BP has been, I guess I shouldn't have been shocked, but I was caught off guard.

This Councilmen was reporting that BP has hired security personnel walking the beaches early in the morning to pick up dead animals so the reporters can't show you what's really going on. I think he said something about these security personnel not allowing people on the beach also. Now I may have heard that wrong because I wasn't fully listening at that point, but I think that's what I heard. How in the world can a private security company not allow people to go on a private beach? If that is the case, and again I may not have my facts straight, there is something MAJORLY wrong with that!

I am sick of big corporations spending millions of dollars to cover up misdeals. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to the company to throw that money at fixing the problem than wasting it on ad campaigns that we know are just full of lies?

If you have not seen this video you need to. A grown man is begging for help from our congress and is in tears because his hands are tied! So BP I say to you SHAME ON YOU! SHAME ON YOU! I don't expect you to stop the oil leak, I don't expect you to save every bird, fish, turtle, or other sea creature. What I do expect from you is the TRUTH! I expect you to get the tools and equipment necessary for the clean up to the people who are willing to clean up. I expect you to try your hardest to get this leak fixed, and stop wasting money on ad's that aren't solving the problem. Get out of our peoples way and let us get it done!

I am a member of the Handmade Louisiana Team. Share of Lancaster exists to bring comfort and understanding to families who have suffered the loss of a baby through miscarriage, pregnancy complications, prematurity, stillbirth, SIDS and any other cause. They stand by parents in their journey of grief, offering a helping hand, a listening ear and open arms. They also provide educational programs for health professionals and the community. All of the services are offered free of charge.
In 2003 I had suffered the loss of my second child, his name was Jonathan. Giving birth to my sweet stillborn baby, knowing the pain others had gone through and will go through, made me want to do something to help other families. Monday and Tuesday were CRAZY around here. I was dealing with a 5 year old and his reaction to soy ingestion.

I really like this little shop. I'm a Coke addict (yes the drink). It's amazing how some weeks you can find yourself wondering what you should do next because you just don't have much to do. Then other weeks you can't find the time to do what you need to do. I always have 9 million things to do, I just put some off for the more fun stuff. :)

Okay now on to our feature.

Blooming Vintage

How long have you been creating?

I've been making vintage style hair clips off and on since 2003, and seriously since 2008. I love her clips so much that it pains me not to have a girl to buy it for. It's probably a good thing I don't have a girl because I wold go broke shopping on Etsy for a girl.

Her advice is great. If you don't love what you do it will show in your work. Selling on Etsy is very competitive and there are so many other people out there selling what you are selling that it can get discouraging. I try to stick close to the sellers that are kind and generous with their advice and will do what they can to help you be a better Artisan and seller, like Kennly from Blooming Vintage.

Stitches In Cottonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02984869722510201024noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3927688256490632218.post-26133611332875343312010-05-05T10:16:00.007-05:002010-05-05T14:18:39.401-05:00Kreativ Blogger AwardThe wonderful Heather from The Pine Cone Tea Cup has given me the Kreativ Blogger award. I couldn't pass up this opportunity to tell you that I'm a saved, born again, KJV Bible believing Christian. Don't let this scare you off, I don't beat people with the Bible. I do accept that others believe differently than I do and that's what makes life interesting. I believe 100% that my acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross will lead me to Heaven for an eternity of joy.

Okay if that first thing didn't scare you off and make you exit this blog, we'll continue. LOL

2. I served in the Air Force for 4 years. I was stationed in Texas for basic training and Tech school, North Louisiana in Shreveport, then it was off to South Korea and finally to sunny Florida. While I enjoyed the experience the Air Force gave me, I decided that eventually I wanted a family and I knew I couldn't bear leaving my children if I were to be deployed. That didn't happen for a few more years, but I was happy with my choice when it did.

3. I am very unorganized in my personal life, but I can come and organize your home in a few short hours.

4. I cook a lot, but I hate cooking. My boys have food allergies that limit the amount of processed food to almost none. I've streamlined a lot of my cooking though and I cook in bulk and freeze. I'm open to helping anyone that find themselves in a similar situation.

5. I LOVE the beach. Shortly before I turned 29, I had a bit of an identity crisis. I felt that I had only ONE YEAR left to figure out who I really was and what I wanted out of life because once you're 30....you're GROWN, you're an adult. I decided to become a portrait and wedding photographer and did that for a bit but really fell in love with art photography when I traveled up north to Long Point, Ontario on a job to shoot post cards. It was then that I knew that I didn't care to photograph people that I did not know...I wanted to be free to listen to my inner artist and be one with the camera!

Vessel

Tell me a little about your charity and why you started donating to it.

Another artist turned me on to Partners In Health and all of the work that they are doing in Haiti. I too have learned to accept myself for who I am, but I do still strive to become better each day. I have also learned to accept others as well. That is some great advice.

I think her work is amazing. I cant decide if I like the Boardwalk or Vessel the most. I'm also very impressed that she sends photo note cards to our Troops. Being a Air Force vet myself I know that they truly appreciate her gifts and so do their families. Tara contacted me shortly after the Haiti earthquake, but I know that the work there is no where near done and they can still use all the help they can get. If you have never seen Abbygail around Facbook or Twitter you should go check out their pages. She is on an amazing journey. For the details of the fundraiser visit Bella's blog.

I think what Bella's Bowtique is doing is wonderful. I've been following Abby for a few months and on top of all that is going on with Abby, her dad has been overseas (I think in Iraq). He is finally home now. I am amazed at this mom's strength and positive attitude that comes through her posts. She has helped be more thankful for my healthy active boys, and not to complain when my husband isn't very helpful around the house. If she can go through all this without her husband home there is no reason I can't take care of my home without the help of my husband (which he does help from time to time). We take for granted what we have until we see what others are going through and we realize that our life is so much easier and we have no business complaining.

My boys see Abby's picture from time to time while I'm on Facebook and they ask me who she is. I tell them that her name is Abby and she has a beau-beau on her head and we need to pray for her and we do pray for her. I love that my boys are concerned for others and want to pray for them when they see a need.

If you can't help by purchasing something from Bella's Bowtique please help by passing the word around.Stitches In Cottonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02984869722510201024noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3927688256490632218.post-20592166853217005172010-04-23T21:29:00.004-05:002010-04-23T21:36:38.243-05:00Really... From then on my favorite number was 14.

So I guess I can try all I want to win, but going off history it won't be for another 15 years. Tell me a little about your charity and why it's you charity this month.

I do choose a different charity every month to donate to and this month since it is Autism Awareness month, and I have friends with Autistic children, my choice was Cure Autism Now. It is a research organization dedicated to finding a cure. My son, who is reading a book in school on Autism, will also be chipping in $10 of his allowance money.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have several friends that have children who have Autism or are on the Spectrum. This cause is very near and dear to me. I love to hear stories of families doing charity together. I know it brings tears to my eyes when my boys (5 and 3 1/2) tell me they want to give money to the missionary.

An Etsy Treasury is a place where you can feature items you love and promote one of your items. The first thing you want to do is decide on a theme and a title for your treasury. This is especially important if you are doing Treasury Main or Treasury West. I will go into more detail about the specific treasuries later. If I am trying to promote one of my items I will try to come up with a theme based off that item.

There are currently 3 different Treasuries

1. Treasury Main
http://www.etsy.com/treasury.php

2. Treasury West
http://www.etsy.com/treasury_west.php

3. Treasury East
http://www.etsy.com/treasury
Each Treasury has its own "rules". Treasury Main and Treasury East have a limit that you cannot add a Treasury to unless it drop below a specific number. For Treasury Main there have to be less than 333 Treasuries to be able to add. In Treasury West there has to be less than 222. How will you know when it drops below that number? Glad you asked. There is a site called Craftopolis that has Treasury clocks that tell you when the number is supposed to drop below the required 222, or 333.
I usually sit on the Treasury page when it gets close to the 2 - 3 hour mark.

Now if you are not an adrenaline junkie you now have the option to create a Treasury with no pressure in Treasury East. I like this option at the moment because it seem every time I want to create a Treasury it will be available at dinner time, or 4 am. Not the best times for me to go running to the computer.

For those of you who thrive on adrenaline....

Before you get wrapped up in snagging a Treasury you will need to be prepared for when that happens.

There are a few things you can do to be ready for that glorious moment when you actually get a Treasury.
Remember earlier I said you needed a theme and title for your Treasury, well now I'm going to tell you what to do with that. After you decide what your title is going to be (either write it down or remember it for later) go poking around Etsy for the items you would like to feature and heart them so you can easily find them later.

Then you will want to go to Poster Sketch - http://www.etsy.com/poster_sketch.php

The you will start plugging in the item numbers. It will make it really easy for you to do this if you open two browser windows and place them side by side on your desktop like this

My hearted items ^^^ Poster Sketch ^^^

Where are the item numbers? When you find your first item click on the link to view the item and look at the link, the item number will be there for you to double click on, copy and paste. If you are not sure how to copy and paste send me a message and I'll walk you through that. Repeat these steps till your poster sketch is full. Just make sure you can see the item number in the link at the top of the page. I had to resize the Etsy window to allow for clicking and copying the item numbers.

Here is a screen shot of what you Poster Sketch will look like after you added a few items.

Ok then after you have your Poster Sketch filled (or at least 12 of the spots) you can go snag your Treasury. Oh yeah you need to know how to do that too. When it's getting close to the 222 or 333 number go to the page either Treasure Main or Treasury West (links given above) and scroll down past the list of Treasuries. At the bottom it will tell you that the Treasury is full. Don't refresh your page, you might miss your chance. When the number drops below 222 or 333 there you can... I honestly am drawing a blank here so if I get this wrong someone please tell me so I can correct it. There will either be a spot for you to enter a title or a button to click on to add a Treasury. Then you enter your Title and a description if you like and have your Poster sketch ready.

Now this might not be the fastest or only way to get your numbers, but this is how I do it. I click edit under each item and copy the item number and paste it into the Treasury. After you are done you will click save (oh wow once again it's been a while so I'm not totally sure this is correct) and wallah you have your Treasury.

Now for Treasury East

This is a new one on the scene and we don't know how long this one will be with us.

Click the link to the Treasury East above and click on

Then you can put in your item numbers or the full links to the items.

Then your Treasury will look something like this...

Happy Treasury making.
A few months ago I started making coffee sleeves and 80% of the sales are donated to my friend's Relay for Life team. I wanted to help others spread the word about their causes that they support with some or all of their sales.

Today I'm featuring Tamisha Design

Let's get to know Tamisha and what she does.

How long have you been creating?
Well I've been crafting since I was very little. Both my mom and my grandma were crafty and started teaching me to sew at a very young age. I loved making clothes for my dolls and embroidering tea towels, pillowcases and anything else I could get my hands on. I started making crafts to sell as early as grade school and have made and sold crafts off and on since then. I started my Etsy shop about a year ago but most of my sales have still been offline because I've been very busy working full time and going to school.

Dragonfly Cell Phone Charm

How did you get started?

I started my Etsy shop after requests for jewelry from friends, some of which lived out of town. Once I returned to work full time I took a little bit of a break from selling my crafts online to focus on school and work. I recently started creating new pieces to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society because I started participating in their Team in Training program.

Kitten Button

Tell me a little about your charity and why you started donating to it.

The charity I'm currently donating to is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My mother lost her battle with cancer in 2004 and she has always been an inspiration to me. Even when she was sick she was selfless and gave what she could to others. She was a cook at the local Head Start and loved children and loved caring for them, so when I saw the opportunity to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society through their Team in Training program (Leukemia is the most common form of childhood cancer) I literally ran with it. Team in Training is a program that trains people for endurance sports such as triathlons, marathons, and in my case half marathons in exchange for fund raising for LLS. I've never been a runner or really even athletic so it's been tough for me but totally worth it. You can read more about my journey and learn more about the program at www.teamtamisha.com I can't become a doctor or a scientist and help find a cure but I can run to raise funds and awareness.

Orange Awareness Necklace

Any advice for fellow Artisans?

Make sure that the first reason you create is because you love it. It sounds simple but I've found myself become stagnant from time to time and I've come to realize that it's because my focus was to much on creating just to re-stock my shop. When you create things because you love to it makes it a lot easier to stock up your shop, and empty it again with sales!

That's some great advice. I certainly do not create just for the money, I love what I do and I hope to pass on the joy to other through my stuff. Since then I've become active on two different Blogger blogs (say that 10x's fast) and thought I would save time if I had them all here.

So welcome to Blogger my faithful blog followers and I hope I will be able to keep you more updated now.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00339838158852549694noreply@blogger.com0
